Alessandro Mendini
Alessandro Mendini, architect, was born in Milan in 1931. He directed the
magazine "Casabella", "Modo" and "Domus". On his work and the work accomplished
with the alchemy workshop outputs are monographs in various languages.
It is' particularly interested in neo modern and contemporary design. Realize
objects, furniture and installations. From time working with companies
International Alessi, Philips, Swatch and many others, and is a consultant
of various industries, even in the Far East, for the setting of their
problems of image and design. And 'honorary member of the Bezalel Academy of
arts and design in Jerusalem. He was awarded the Compasso d'Oro for
the design in 1979 and in 1981, and "Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres" in
France and received the award from the Architectural League of New York.
His works are exhibited in various museums and private collections.
In 1989 he opened with his brother architect Francis, the atelier
Mendini in Milan, designing factories Alessi and the forum-
Omega, the underground and the restoration of the municipal gardens in
Naples, Italy, a tower in Hiroshima, Japan, the museum of Groningen
in the Netherlands, a district of Lugano in Switzerland, the building for offices
Madsack in Hanover and a palace in Lörrach, Germany and other buildings in
Europe and the United States.
